Our dental hygienists play a vital role within our dental team. Our hygienists work closely with the dentists to ensure we deliver the optimum oral health care for all our patients.
Your home tooth cleaning regime must be supplemented with professional cleans from the hygienist. Tooth brushing alone will not remove the calculus (also known as tartar) which collects over time. Calculus increases your risk of dental decay and periodontal disease (gum disease). The surfaces and areas between the teeth and under the gum line must be maintained and treated on a regular basis in order to ensure proper dental hygiene. Our hygienists use scaling and polishing instruments to remove plaque and calculus from your teeth. These polishing instruments will also remove staining, making it more difficult for plaque to build up on your teeth.
The hygienists will also offer advice on how you can implement an effective daily regime, ensuring you remove as much plaque as possible every day. They will also discuss the role that your diet will play in maintaining a healthy oral environment.
