At Dental Design, we believe the foundation for achieving excellent oral health is preventative care. This is true for both adults and children, and it’s why we recommend that our patients see us every six months for regular cleaning and check-ups.
It’s through these appointments that we can detect many issues early on, which allows you the best opportunity for successful treatment with less invasive procedures.
There are some very important things that happen at your cleaning and check-up appointments.
First, our doctors will screen you for issues such as periodontal (gum) disease, tooth decay, and oral cancer. We’ll take x-rays once per year to help us see these conditions in their earliest stages, and believe it or not, we can detect things much earlier than you can because many of these conditions don’t have much pain or any symptoms associated with them until they are fairly well advanced.
Next, one of our highly skilled hygienists will clean your teeth, which removes the excessive plaque build-up responsible for causing conditions such as gum disease and cavities. Our hygienists spend time educating our patients on different aspects of their oral health and how patients can make the most of their home care routine.
We now understand that there are many links between your oral health and your overall health and well being, and your periodontal health plays a big role in this. Periodontal disease is essentially an infection of the bone and soft tissue that support your teeth, and the bacteria that cause this infection can contribute to other health concerns in the body.
Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal disease, and it can typically be managed with a thorough professional cleaning and improved home care. It may be hard to detect gingivitis on your own; however, some symptoms to be aware of include:
If you notice any of these symptoms, be proactive and contact Dental Design to schedule a cleaning and check-up right away.
Periodontitis is the advanced stage of gum disease, and this is typically when the damage starts to occur. Periodontal disease that’s left untreated will result in the infection destroying the support system for your teeth, which leads to tooth loss. This stage requires a deeper cleaning, possibly some antibiotic therapy, and surgery in some cases.
Dental Design is well equipped to help you manage any stage of gum disease you may be facing.
Preventative care is the best way for us to help you manage your oral health. We look forward to helping you achieve and maintain a healthy and beautiful smile for a lifetime. Give us a call today to schedule your next appointment.
